Revitalizing Urban Waterfronts
Revitalized urban waterfronts, such as Baltimore's Inner Harbor, build on Burnham's belief that cities should have attractive open spaces that serve as hubs of urban life. Since the 1960s, American cities like Baltimore have partnered with real estate developers and local institutions to remake declining industrial waterfronts into dynamic recreational, commercial, and civic centers.
