Frank V. Dudley: Conserving Native Landscape in the Metropolis
Cliff Dwellers
James R. Dabbert will present a program on the works of landscape painter Frank V. Dudley (1868-1957). Dudley spent forty years of his professional life as a landscape painter and he used much of his work to promote and preserve the Indiana Dunes. Along with fellow founding members of The Cliff Dweller, Daniel Burnham and Jens Jensen, they advocated for the Forest Preserves surrounding Chicago.
Mr. Dabbert is Director of IIT's Writing Center; he is the editor and co-author of "The Indiana Dunes Revealed: The Art of Frank V. Dudley" (2006). [MORE]

The vision encompasses issues of major concern to Chicago-area grantmakers: quality of life, the environment, housing, health, safety, education, economic strength, energy production and consumption, water use, intergovernmental cooperation and planning, and civic involvement. A final plan, for release in Fall 2010, will include public input through events focusing on the Burnham Centennial.

No Little Plans: Roads of Daniel Burnham's Plan of Chicago

2009 is the 100th anniversary of Burnham's Plan of Chicago, which was instrumental in influencing the development of Chicagoland as we know it today.
