Join the Chicago History Museum for an extraordinary Fourth of July celebration. This Independence Day marks the Museum’s 49th annual festivities and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the official presentation of the Plan of Chicago to the City. The popular, family-friendly event includes musical performances, crafts and a children’s costume parade. This year's program includes a special tribute to the Centennial and the presentation of the new Plan of Chicago: Centennial Edition.
The publication, a collaboration between the Chicago History Museum, Burnham Plan Centennial Committee and the Great Books Foundation, utilized digital files from the Chicago History Museum to reproduce the exquisite illustrations from the original Plan. The Centennial Edition features a new introduction by Carl Smith, author of the prize-winning book The Plan of Chicago: Daniel Burnham and the Remaking of the American City and an elegant new cover design by VSA Partners, Inc.
