Experience the Plan of Chicago through Geocaching

Experience the Plan of Chicago through Geocaching

For teens ages fourteen-up, parents and educators. This hands-on experience allows participants to discover the history of Chicago while using 21st century tools. Join experienced Geocachers (treasure-hunters who use Global Positioning System devices) in a hunt to rediscover 1909 Chicago. Using handheld GPS units, participants will tour several historic spots that Daniel Burnham used to create the Plan of Chicago while hunting for clues to enhance this journey through time. Pre-registration required.

Even if you can't make it to this event you can still participate in the Geocaching Challenge with your own handheld Global Positioning System devices to hunt for clues about 1909 Chicago, Daniel Burnham and the Plan of Chicago. Completed activity sheets may be turned into librarians at any Chicago Public Library location or sent via email to teenvolume@chipublib.org for a change to win prize Teen Volume books, wrist bands and more. Winners will be contacted in early September. For an activity sheet, contact Robin through the contact info provided on the sidebar of this page.
