The Northbrook Public Library connects people with information, ideas and experiences to provide enjoyment and enrich lives. As the cultural center of the community, the library offers a wide variety of ongoing programs and special events. The library will commemorate the Centennial of the Burnham Plan with programs, the "Make Big Plans" exhibit and an international juried art show. The library houses a strong architecture, landscape architecture and city planning collection.

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of Daniel Burnham's 1909 Plan of Chicago. Actor historian R.J. Lindsey portrays Daniel Burnham as he narrates a slide presentation that begins with the Chicago Fire of 1871, features Burnham's innovative buildings including Montauk, Monadnock, Reliance and the Rookery, the "White City" of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, and concludes with illustrations of his Chicago Plan.

Make Big Plans: Burnham's Vision of an American Metropolis

The Northbrook Public Library will host "Make Big Plans: Daniel Burnham’s Vision of an American Metropolis" an exhibit hosted by the Newberry Library commemorating Daniel Burnham and Edward Bennett's 1909 Plan of Chicago. The exhibit emphasizes the Plan’s relevance to metropolitan development through the 20th century and into the future using photographic reproductions of stunning images from the plan and other sources. The Northbrook Library is one of over 50 venues throughout the metropolitan region that will host the exhibit which is a focal point
