100 Columns + (ABC's: All Burnham Chicago)

C U P & Virginia Polytechnic Institute

A micro-installation in Burnham Park, 100 Columns + represents both turning the clock backward 100 years and forward 100 years. This timeframe gives perspective on the historic events since 1909 and speculates toward all the potential developments ahead for the city of Chicago. The 100 Columns + vision is one of a field or prairie as Chicago once was, but focusing upon urban growth patterns both which were and could be natural and constructed over two hundred years 1909–2109. Chicago Architecture Foundation

The John Buck Company Lecture Hall in the Santa Fe Building will be the focal point for youth activities relating to the Chicago Model City exhibit. The walls of this space will be devoted to interpretation of the Plan for younger minds with expectations that adults will learn as well. This bold graphic presentation may also be available in published form.

A special opening for families will be held  Sunday, June 21st from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. [MORE]

Building Your Place in Riverside

Riverside Public Library

To celebrate the Centennial of the Burnham Plan, Riverside residents and businesses will have the opportunity to become part of Olmsted's Plan of Riverside, by participating in a BIG MAP Project, which will be on display August 24 through September 14. [MORE]
