IRM is the nation's largest railroad museum, with more than 400 historic passenger cars, locomotives, street cars, freight cars, "L" cars and buses. Streeetcars operate on summer weekdays. In addition, a five mile mainline ride is offered on historic railway trains on weekends thru October 5. Two miles of covered walkways. Collection highlights inlude a 1859 Chicago horse-drawn streetcar, an operating 1936 Nebraska Zephyr, the streamilned Electroliner, 28 displayed steam locomotives, restored Depression-era Pullman cars and much more. The IRM is pleased to host the Make Big Plans: Burnham's Vision of an American Metropolis exhibit from June 15 - October 25, 2009.
