ARCHITECTS RESEARCH FOUNDATION

Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge was founded in 1961 by James Wright Hammond as a means to interpret clients' needs and desires through direct participation in all phases of the design and construction process. Thomas Beeby, Dennis Rupert and Gary Ainge continue this tradition with the belief that collaborative efforts between client and architect result in the finest buildings. The principals have always prided themselves in bringing the sophistication of a large firm to a more personal manner of practice.  The firm has established Architects Research Foundation, a non-profit organization to publish the Plans of Chicago book for the Burnham Plan Centennial.

Plans of Chicago

Architects Research Foundation

This illustrated book takes the Burnham and Bennett plan as a primary point of departure for a new regional planning approach. Comparison with other historical urban-improvement plans for Chicago, including proposals by Frank Lloyd Wright, Jens Jensen, Walter Burley Griffin, and Ludwig Hilberseimer, identifies complementary strengths and common shortcomings. These conclusions inform a regional plan that recognizes and relates the city’s distinct parts and can be implemented gradually.
