The Burnham Plan Centennial in collaboration with the DePaul Center for Urban Education and the Chicago Public Schools Office of Literacy, Instruction and Assessment invites third- and eighth-grade and special education teachers to participate in a special day-long workshop that will help teachers to make the city itself a vital part of the curriculum.
The workshop will introduce units, aligned with Illinois Learning Standards, that emphasize literacies and critical thinking; literacy about the city itself, literacies of reading and writing, and critical thinking about the past, present and future.
Who: Third and Eighth Grade and Special Education Teachers.
What: Professional Development workshops to introduce two new Bold Plans Big Dreams Units that enable teachers to make the city itself a vital part of the curriculum. Aligned with Illinois Learning Standards, the units emphasize literacies and critical thinking; literacy about the city itself, literacies of reading and writing, and critical thinking about the past, present and future.
When; March 27, 2009, 8:30 am-2:30 pm
Where: The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Architecture Foundation, Chicago History Museum, Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, National Mexican Museum of Art, and The Newberry Library. (Location to be assigned upon receipt of registration form.)

Bold Plans Big Dreams lesson plans and classroom resources
Orientation to the resource materials
Orientation to and exploration of museum exhibits
Opportunity to plan collaboratively with colleagues
