Explore Jackson Park, site of the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 of which Daniel Burnham served as Director of Works. The tour includes a pictorial recreation of the famous fair and examines how Frederick Law Olmsted transformed marshes and sand dunes into a beautifully landscaped park that is now on the National Register of Historic Places. We will also visit the restored Osaka Garden.
Meet in the Jackson Park parking lot (free parking). From downtown, take Lakeshore Drive south. Drive PAST 57th Street, which is the exit for the Museum of Science and Industry. The next light is Science Drive, make a right hand turn. Science Drive dead-ends at Columbia Drive. Make a left and proceed to the end of the parking lot. From here, the rear of the Museum is visible. The tour begins here.
