In conjunction with other Local Industrial Retention Initiative (LIRI) organizations of the Chicago Department of Community Development (DCD), on May 27, 2009 the LEED Council launched a planning process for the future of Chicago's industrial corridors and planned manufacturing districts (PMDs) in conjunction with the Burnham Plan Centennial.
The intiative will engage local businesses in making bold new plans to improve the physical environment of their corridors and to advance the economic growth of Chicago in the 21st century global competition for jobs and prosperity and identify urban design and transportation improvements within the new paradigm of sustainable development that fosters socially responsible economic growth while reducing environmental impact. The initiative will culminate in Spring 2010 with a forum that will highlight bold plans that can and must be initiated to assure that Chicago is one of the world’s best places to work.
