Daniel Burnham's views on architecture and his ideas for the city are more fully revealed in his notes, letters and drafts than in the published Plan of Chicago. These materials enrich our understanding not only of the public architect and planner, but also disclose the religious beliefs and moral values of the private man.
Dr. Kristen Schaffer, associate professor of architecture at North Carolina State University will share her findings from her research into the original draft of the 1909 Chicago Plan. Author of "Daniel H. Burnham: Visionary Architect", Dr. Schaffer's expertise on Burnham was sought for the introduction to the new edition of the 1909 Chicago Plan.
The event, co-hosted by Northwestern University's Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences American Studies Department and the Swedenborg Library, will take place in Fisk Hall, the only building on the Northwestern campus designed by Burnham.
