Exhibit :
The Loyola University Crown Center Gallery kicks off the 2009-2010 seasion with an exhibition exploring a local issue especially relevant to the Loyola community, The Last Four Miles: Completing Chicago's Lakefront Parks presented in association with Friends of the Parks.
As urban planner Daniel Burnham famously stated in the 1909 Plan of Chicago, "The lakefront by right belongs to the people - not a foot of its shores sould be appropriated to the exlusion of the people." Motivated by the centennial of the Burnham Plan, Friends of the Parks proposes completing the last four miles of Chicago's existing 26 mile public lakeshore park system.
The exhibition will feature the results of a community-based planning effort to complete the lakefront path from the Indiana boundary on the south to the Evanston-Chicago border. Loyola supports the process of community organizing and is excited by this opportunity to host an exhibition that encourages interaction and feedback on a development issue that would impact the Loyola and Rogers Park communities.
