Industrial Retrofit
The project takes back the Chicago River where it makes no sense to have heavy industry in the city. Marsh environments clean the river and establish wildlife habitat. Stormwater is caught and treated in rain gardens and bioswales. All spaces that touch the river edge are public. Housing is located near quiet, natural open space areas. Vertical housing has balconies or roof gardens so residents can interact with fresh air and nature. Mini-marinas relieve demand for boat harbor space along the lakefront.
