The Waukegan Public Library has served the residents of Waukegan for over 110 years. The library strives to add quality to people's lives by providing opportuntiies to learn, gather, be informed and entertained. The library's collection exceeds 250,000 items and includes one of the largest CD and DVD collections in Lake County. The main library is located in downtown Waukegan, north of the County Building. In addition, here is a branch in the Waukegan Park District's Field House located at Grand and Baldwin, and two bookmobiles to serve residents. As part of the Burnham Plan Centennial, the Waukegan Public Library is one of 67 venues hosting Make Big Plans: Burnham's Vision of an American Metropolis. Making no small plans, the library is planning on opening an annex in downtown Waukegan that will house a used bookstore, adult literacy program, exhibit space and program and conference rooms. The annex is scheduled to open in December, 2010.
