The Oak Brook Public Library’s mission is to provide professional, responsive service and to promote the development of independent, self-confident and literate citizens through the provision of open access to cultural, recreational, intellectual and informational resources. We will celebrate Bold Plans, Big Dreams by informing the community of Daniel Burnham and Edward H. Bennett’s plan for the Chicago metropolitan area, set into motion 100 years ago. To continue with their legacy, we will host several events at the library to promote Oak Brook: its history, open spaces, parks and forest preserves, retail and corporate centers, and its people: diverse in ehtniciaty, culture and religion. As part of the Burnham Plan Centennial, the Oak Brook Public Library is one of 67 venues hosting Make Big Plans: Burnham's Vision of an American Metropolis.
