The main building for the Joliet Public Library opened in 1903 and was designed by Daniel Burnham. In 1991 we built an addition to the main building that truly complements the original Burnham design. Many of the original features of the building still exist, such as woodwork and marble floors and walls. We have several framed photographs of the original interior displayed. The Joliet Public Library is pleased to be one of over 60 venues throughout the region hosting the Make Big Plans: Burnham's Vision of an American Metropolis, through December 30 on the second floor. For more information about the exhibit--curated by the Newberry Library--and the list of more than 60 venues where it is on display, or to access the exhibit on-line click here.
