The mission of the Joliet Area Historical Museum is to promote awareness, understanding and preservation of the Joliet area’s diverse history through an active, community based collections acquisition program, engaging exhibits, and innovative educational programming.

Burnham and Edward H. Bennett and touches on the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, the buildings of D.H. Burnham & Company in Joliet, Burnham's 1909 Plan of Chicago, and Bennett's 1921 Plan of Joliet. Today, planners and architects continue to improve the city and increase its livability by expanding on Bennett's plan. With preparations for new campaigns such as the VOA Associates' transit center, the spirit of Burnham and Bennett lives on in Joliet. We'll start at the Joliet Area Historical Museum and ride through Joliet while learning about the background of historic buildings and a Burnham-esque dream known as "The Bennett Plan."
