Program Partners

CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS | UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO | INTERNET PROJECT (CUIP)

Founded in 1996, the Chicago Public Schools/University of Chicago Internet Project (CUIP) is a partnership between the University of Chicago, the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and 21 CPS schools located in the Woodlawn, Hyde Park/South Kenwood and North Kenwood/Oakland neighborhoods. The CUIP cluster is comprised of 19 elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high school, with a population of approximately 10,000 students and 550 teachers.

Our primary goal is to enhance teaching and learning in the CUIP schools through the use of the Internet and other computer technologies. Toward this end, CUIP provides in-school support to teachers, technology coordinators and principals with infrastructure and system management issues, as well as provide individual and group training. Additionally, CUIP collaborates with CPS educators to create instructional and research materials that are published online, enabling students anywhere to have meaningful, technology-rich educational experiences through the Chicago WebDocent and eCUIP Digital Library projects.
