From City Beautiful to Green Metropolis

Daniel Burnham's call for a bold, metropolitan vision and his concern for the wellbeing of the region's residents remain timely. Urban planners continue to seek innovative solutions for transporting people and goods and clever ways to bring more green into the urban grid. Today's planners are more likely than their predecessors to address these problems in ways that also sustain natural resources and stall global climate change. Throughout the Chicago region, numerous projects take up these challenges. Many are underway; others offer models for the future. All illustrate the choices that planners and metropolitan Chicago residents face in the 21st century.
