Urban Gateways specializes in bringing the best of the visual, literary, media and performing arts to children in school-based and community settings throughout the Chicago area.  Founded in 1961, Urban Gateways excels at deepening the artistic experience for all youth by ensuring that the arts play a critical role in every child’s education.

In the summer of 2009, Urban Gateways conducted a number of community-based “Art Options” programs involving twenty youth, community residents and two professional teaching artists. These include the Chicago/Tanzania International Exchange. Programming in each community took place over a four- to six-week period, culminating in the creation of public works of art, exhibitions or performances.
