URBAN GATEWAYS CENTER FOR ARTS EDUCATION

The mission of Urban Gateways is to ignite the full creative potential of all young people. Urban Gateways specializes in bringing the best of the visual, literary, media and performing arts to children in school-based and community settings throughout the Chicago area.  Founded in 1961, Urban Gateways excels at deepening the artistic experience for all youth by ensuring that the arts play a critical role in every child’s education.

In the summer of 2009, Urban Gateways conducted a number of community-based “Art Options” programs involving twenty youth, community residents and two professional teaching artists. These include the Chicago/Tanzania International Exchange. Programming in each community took place over a four- to six-week period, culminating in the creation of public works of art, exhibitions or performances.
