Make Big Plans: Burnham Centennial Bus Tour

Happy 100th, 1909 Plan of Chicago! Through a formal presentation at the Chicago Cultural Center, and Harold Washington Library’s special exhibit, you’ll grasp the genius that shaped city planning and Chicago history. Visit Northerly Island and Jackson, Burnham and Lincoln parks. Review Burnham and Bennett’s pioneering ideas for local thoroughfares and railroad traffic. A rendezvous at Burnham’s graveside at Graceland Cemetery makes a fitting epilogue. Tour Highlights • Chicago Cultural Center Presentation/Discussion
• Harold Washington Library Center Exhibit (Make Big Plans: Daniel Burnham’s Vision of an American Metropolis) Tour
• Visit Jackson Park, Burnham Park, Northerly Island and Lincoln Park
• Stop at Graceland Cemetery

Event is 8:45 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (Tour 10 a.m.-3 p.m.) $40 per person. Cash only includes lunch at Orso's Restaurant. Purchase tickets at the Adult Services Desk.

  • 8:45 a.m. Chicago Neighborhood Tours picks up group at Lansing Public Library.
  • 10:00 a.m. Chicago Neighborhood Tours bus meets CNT guides at the Chicago Cultural Center
  • 10:00 a.m. Begin slideshow about 1909 Plan of Chicago
  • 10:45 a.m. Finish slideshow and begin to board the bus
  • 10:50 a.m. Begin tour that will include visits to Jackson Park, Burnham Park, Northerly Island and Lincoln Park
  • 12:00 p.m. Arrive at Orso’s restaurant for lunch.
  • 1:00 p.m. Finish lunch
  • 1:00 p.m. Finish tour with visit to Burhnam’s gravesite
  • 3:00 p.m. Chicago Neighborhood Tours drops off CNT staff and guide at the Chicago Cultural Center.
  • 4:00 p.m. Chicago Neighborhood Tours drop off group at Lansing Library.
