The Summer 2009 issue of Chicago Wilderness magazine features the Burnham Plan and its important connection to biodiversity conservation, and its enduring legacy to preserve the local nature which is so critical to our quality of life.
The article, titled "Burnham's Vision 100 Years Later," ties to the Chicago Wilderness’ Green Infrastructure Vision, which some have called the Burnham Plan for the next century. The Green Infrastructure Vision directly aligns with the goal of the Centennial programming to inspire our region’s communities, leaders and institutions to build on the success of the Burnham Plan and act boldly to make this region one of the best places to live and work. This article and the Chicago Wilderness Green Infrastructure vision, in keeping with the Burnham Plan, focus on the physical environment with an emphasis on open space, beauty and centers of community and recreation for the benefit of all the region’s residents.
