Stops on the Line

Stops on the Line

Stops on the Line is an examination of Chicago’s historical Union Station as a massive architectural landmark and location for modern human transience. Movement and sound material is derived from the structure’s blueprints, historical accounts and writings, and artists’ observations and improvisations in Union Station. By intertwining these many perspectives and experiences, a compelling performance unfolds with genuine relationships, beautiful images, thought-provoking interactions, and a resounding sense of history influencing the present. The performance will be premiered in the Spring 2009.

The project is a collaboration between Chicago-based dance company The Moving Architects, under artistic direction of Erin Carlisle Norton who was recently voted “Best Choreographer” by the Chicago Reader, and composer Ian Hatcher. Stops on the Line reveals both Chicago’s past and present by delving deeply into the relationship between Union Stations’ static architecture and its dynamic people and populations.
