The Embrace Nature Campaign

Primarily focused on the City of Chicago's Nature and Wildlife Plan, the campaign is a unique media outreach initiative consisting of inspiring and thought-provoking photographic images of diverse individuals and families experiencing the beauty of various natural and green spaces in Chicago. Project Nomad
The Elements Group
Inspired by the architecture of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and his historic Farnsworth House, Project Nomad is a modern mobile nature and environmental learning center designed to be transported to and temporarily displayed in urban parks and open space areas. Project Nomad contains resources and interactive features on nature, green living and sustainability, including information and materials of the Chicago Center for Green Technology, the Chicago Park District, the City of Chicago's Department of Environment and other Chicago-based nature-oriented museums and institutions.

Greenest Region Compact
Metropolitan Mayors Caucus
The Caucus will work with Mayors and communities throughout the region to adopt The Greenest Region Compact - an initiative to voluntarily improve the region’s air, water and land, reduce greenhouse gases, minimize waste, and reduce energy consumption. The Greenest Region Compact challenges local governments to take action within their own operations and practices, and to provide the tools and resources to enable residents to take action as well.
Building of the Chicago Lakefront Guidebook
Illinois State Geological Survey
This guidebook will describe how the Chicago lakefront was built, the role that the Burnham Plan played in the lakefront development and the coastal geology at Chicago that made the lakefront construction feasible. It will consider the coastal erosion that would have plagued Chicago if the lakefront were not engineered. The guidebook will also address the future geo-engineering challenges and opportunities along the lakefront. (Summer 2009) [MORE]
McHenry-Lake Connection
Illinois Department of Natural Resources
This project will connect the existing Moraine Hills State Park River Road Trail to Lake County’s Millennium Trail and is part of the northeastern Illinois regional trail system and the 500-mile Grand Illinois Trail. DNR has funding for Phase 2 engineering and construction for the project. This project will help achieve Burnham’s original vision to create an “outer…parkway circuit” around Chicago. [MORE]
On-line Water Calculator
Field Museum
This tool let users calculate their average daily household water consumption. The calculator will allow families to record their water consumption over a period of time and track trends in both indoor and outdoor categories. It will also contain tips for water conservation and links to other resources. Use this calculator and get a chance to win rain barrels, water bottles, and more. [MORE]

Daniel H. Burnham Photograph Albums
Art Institute of Chicago
Three family photograph albums have been added to the Art Institute's Ryerson & Burnham Libraries. In April 2008, Daniel H. Burnham family heirs gathered in the Libraries' Reading Room to donate some business papers and three photograph albums—important and fascinating additions to the Burnham archives that offer rare images of the private Burnham, with his wife, his children and his friends. The family also loaned two silver loving cups that had been given to Burnham; the loving cups are currently on display in the Franke Reading Room. [MORE]
